A Summary of Grandeur Achievements

Over the years, there have been many milestones in the breed, and the Grandeur Afghan Hounds have made historical contributions on almost every front.

  • Grandeur has owned 12 All-Breed Best In Show winners with 314 Best in Shows awarded.

  • There have been 428 All-Breed Best in Shows earned by or out of a Grandeur dog.

  • Grandeur has owned 17 Specialty Best in Show winners with 183 total Best in Specialty Shows earned by or out of a Grandeur dog.

  • Ch. Tryst of Grandeur is the Top Winning Hound Of All Time, with 161 All-Breed Best in Shows. She is the first and only Hound to ever win more than 100 Best in Shows, and is one of the Top Ten all-time Best in Show winners. A 3-time Quaker Oats award winner, and the Number One Dog of All Breeds in 1995. And she is the dam of two litters!

  • Ch. Triumph of Grandeur (Tryst's sire) is the Top Winning Hound Dog of All Time with 86 All-Breed Best in Shows. He was a 2-time Quaker Oats award winner.

  • Grandeur "Sires of Significance": There have been 234 Champions produced by a Grandeur male. Champions Shirkhan, Nissims Laurel, Blu Shah, Triumph and Tried and True were all "Top Producing Sires" with more than 10 Champions each.

  • Grandeur "Dams of Significance": There have been 165 Champions out of a Grandeur bitch. Champions Ginger, Zala, Sassy, Star and Trademark were all "Top Producing Dams" with more than 4 Champions each.

  • Int. Ch. Shirkhan of Grandeur held the Top Producing Sire record for almost 20 years with 43 Champions.

  • Ch. Rings True of Grandeur is the youngest Afghan Hound Best in Show winner at 10 months of age.

  • Ch. Trademark of Grandeur is the youngest Afghan Hound champion, finishing at 6 months, 17 days with 18 points and 4 majors. Ch. Bahai's Shahadi of Grandeur and Ch. Shahrp of Grandeur had previously held this title.

  • There have been at least 10 Obedience or Coursing titles won by a Grandeur Dog.

  • Ch. Bahai's Shahati of Grandeur (Swan) held the record as the youngest Specialty Best in Show winner.

  • Int. Ch. Blu Shah of Grandeur held the record as the top Specialty Best in Show winner.

  • The record for Top Winning Afghan Hound Bitch was held by Ch. Shahpphire of Grandeur, later broken by her daughter, Ch. Tryst of Grandeur.

  • Quaker Oats Awards Winners: Ch. Shirkhan of Grandeur - 2x, Ch. Triumph of Grandeur - 2x, Ch. Tryst of Grandeur - 3x.

  • Grandeur has had 10 Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed winners.

  • Grandeur has had 7 Westminster Kennel Club Group Placements.

  • The First Breeder/Owner/Handled Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show winner was Ch. Shirkhan of Grandeur, bred, owned and handled by Sunny Shay.

  • 36 major awards were won at the Westminster Kennel Club show by a Grandeur Afghan Hound.

  • 4 Westminster Kennel Club Group Winners were sired by a Grandeur dog.

  • There have been 3 Afghan Hound Club of America National Specialty Best in Shows won by a Grandeur dog.

  • 11 Major Awards have been won at Afghan Hound Club of America National Specialties by Grandeur dogs.

  • 6 Afghan Hound Club of America National Specialty Best in Show Winners were sired by a Grandeur dog.
