The annual cover and a sample inside of a Grandeur Picnic Invitation
|
THE FIRST GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Judge MRS. JOAN McDonald BREARLEY Owner of the famous SAHADI Kennels. Joan was one of the first to bring the Grandeur and Crown Crest lines together, resulting in many Top Winning and Top Producing Afghan Hounds.
Joan also is a well-known author of several books on the Afghan Hound. Her appearance at this picnic was a thrill to all the newcomers in the breed, who were able to meet and greet one of the breeds "legends."
THE SECOND GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Co-Judges were MR. And MRS. ROBERT TONGREN. Bob and Babbie, in addition to being owners of the BenGhazi Kennels, were local legends among us. There could not have been truer friends to Sunny over the years and their relationship to Grandeur remains one of our most valued possessions.
Many of those in attendance were influenced by the Tongrens and came to be a part of this beautiful day.
THE THIRD GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Judge MR. GENE BLAKE Gene was one of the breed's most talented handlers, a personal friend, and a new judge when he came to the picnic. He finished a few Grandeur Champions and was a mentor to us when it came to fine tuning the presentation of the Afghans of Grandeur. Genes affable demeanor was greatly appreciated by everyone.
THE FOURTH GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Judge MRS. REIGH ABRAM Both Dewey and Reigh owned the Dureigh Kennels which were foundation to the present day Afghan Hound. This match was altered to settle a "bet" between Roger and Reigh.
One day Reigh told Roger she could pick the best puppy from a litter "blindfolded"
well Roger took her up on that...and Reigh had to judge Best in Match BLINDFOLDED! There was one catch
she had to re-judge it without the blindfold to see what would happen.
It was so exciting
with only one exception, every placement was the same. This made for a incredible afternoon and those present were afforded a rare experience.
THE FIFTH GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Judge MRS. PRISCILLA SENIOR Owner of the RUBICON Kennels and the breeder of Int. Ch. Blu Shah of Grandeur. Priscilla was an excellent breeder of Afghan Hounds and also a top Cardigan Welsh Corgi breeder. She was a close friend of Sunnys who was one of the few to utilize Ch. Boy Blu of Grandeur. Her instincts proved to be very correct.
While Priscilla might have kept a quiet profile, her dedication to the breed and the Grandeur line in particular are now part of Afghan Hound history.
THE SIXTH AND LAST GRANDEUR INVITATIONAL
Honorary Judge MR. DENNIS SPRUNG Dennis and his wife Susan were childhood sweethearts that got their first Afghan Hound from Sunny and were as close to the Grandeur fold as anyone could possibly be. They owned, bred and showed only Grandeur Afghan Hounds. Dennis was in attendance of all the Invitationals and it was most befitting that he officiate at the last one.
